This semi-realistic oil painting was part of an online food painting challenge: Plums in a bowl!
I was immediately drawn to the simplicity of the composition and the complex colour shading on the plum skins—a great opportunity to practice quick, layered painting. Capturing the deep, velvet-like purple against the light, striped bowl was a wonderful exercise in contrasting light and texture. This piece is a reminder that beauty often lies in the most common, simple subjects.
