Botanical & Floral Paintings

My Botanical and Floral Paintings:
Nature`s Embrace

I love creating rich paintings of bouquets with flowers, plants, shoes, and even snails. As a deep appreciation for nature, I paint flowers and plants in all sorts of ways. This is my personal way to express my love for the natural world. Whether it’s a sunflower field, some vibrant pink hollyhocks, or an abundant flower bouquet, the essence is always to capture their beauty in a permanent form.

This makes me think about why I love to paint them…

Is it to relax? Like a therapeutic activity that helps me reduce stress and promotes a sense of calm. Or do I simply like the challenge? Because painting flowers and plants can be quite an interesting subject, providing unique challenges like capturing delicate details, vivid colors, and intricate patterns. Or is it nostalgia? Because flowers and plants can evoke strong emotions and memories, like the smell of a particular flower bringing back childhood moments.

I guess… all of these are true.

One thing I do know is… everyone has their own favorite flower or plant. What would be yours?

How I Work

My process for botanical and floral paintings starts with two base layers of colored gesso. Then, I sketch out a composition, often inspired by a photograph (though sometimes I sketch intuitively) using pencil or charcoal. After the initial sketch, I apply the first layer with mixed acrylic paints. Finally, I add multiple layers of water-soluble oil paint until I’m happy with the result. I work on various surfaces like canvas, canvas on panel, wooden panels, or high-quality oil paint paper.

A Special Bloom Just For You: Commission a Floral Piece

Do you have a particular flower, a special bouquet, or even a specific plant that holds a special meaning for you? Perhaps it’s your wedding bouquet, a flower from a loved one’s garden, or simply your absolute favorite bloom? I can capture that personal beauty on canvas.

Commissioning a botanical or floral painting allows you to have a personalized artwork that resonates deeply with your memories and preferences. It’s a wonderful way to immortalize a cherished flower or plant in a unique, artistic way.

As always, your commissioned piece will be colorful, energetic, and layered, reflecting my signature style and your unique story. And, of course, 2% of the proceeds from your commissioned painting will be donated to the Alzheimer Stichting.

If you’d like to see your special bloom or botanical scene transformed into a lasting artwork, please contact me to discuss your ideas.
